About the event

We invite you to join for Dhamma teachings during the 2024 Vassa on our practice theme: Practicing for Peace in a World on Fire, with Ven Sobhana Theri and the Dhammadharini Bhikkhuni Sangha.

During the Vassa (July 22nd - October 17th), the community plans to offer a number of different teachings, including: 

  • Uposatha Sila Programs: At Dhammadharini Monastery and on Zoom, With Ayya Sobhana and Guest Teachers.  9-9:30 am. Morning Chanting, Taking the Three Refuges and Eight Uposatha Precepts 7-9 pm. Guided Meditation, Dhamma Talk, and a time for questions.

                     Sunday, August 4 - New Moon

                     Monday, August 19 - Full Moon

                     Tuesday, September 3 - New Moon

                     Tuesday, September 17 - Full Moon Special program honoring the International Bhikkhuni Day

                     Wednesday, October 2 - New Moon

  • Half-Day meditation retreats.  Offered to re-engage with in-person fellowship at Dhammadharini Monastery … your chance to sit together in meditation, share a meal, listen and discuss the Dhamma.  Friends may come for the entire Sunday program or any portion of the day.

  • International Bhikkhuni Day.  Through the magic of Zoom, we hope to bring together Bhikkhuni teachers from around the world to celebrate and reflect about women’s full participation in the Sangha, recent progress and remaining challenges.

                     Tuesday, September 17, 7-9pm

                     There will also be a day-long in-person retreat at Aranya Bodhi on Saturday September 14.

  • Regular weekly zoom programs.  Throughout this Vassa, the ongoing weekly programs will explore the Buddha’s teachings for overcoming anger, realizing the liberation of the heart through loving kindness, and aiming towards the sublime freedom of the Sage at Peace.
